TMZ reports the 57 year old star was last pictured at around 7pm on Wednesday night visiting a Walgreens pharmacy near to his home.
Police were called after his lifeless body was found at his Paisley Park mansion and recording studios in Minnesota at 9.43am.
He was forced to cancel two gigs recently over concerns about his health.

And last Friday he singer was flying home from a show in Atlanta, Georgia when he was taken ill forcing his private jet to make an emergency landing in Molina, Illinois.
He was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where he was treated and released hours later.
TMZ claims doctors advised the singer to stay in hospital but they couldn’t offer him a private room so he and his team left after just three hours.
Multiple sources reportedly told the site that doctors administered a “save shot”, which they say is typically given to counteract the effects of an opiate..Authorities are now believed to be trying to get the hospital records to help determine the cause of death.
