Chadema Doesn't Agree With President Magufuli's dismissal style

The main opposition Chadema has criticized President John Magufuli’s style of suspending and dismissing public officials accused of corruption or embezzlement of public funds, saying the style is against principles of rule of law and good governance.

The party said however that it supported the government’s move to reshape its workforce to guarantee better performance and productivity.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Dares Salaam, Chadema’s Dar es es Salaam Secretary Mr Henry Kilewo, said suspects should be  given an opportunity to be heard before they are punished.

“Suspension of public officials is not enough…we also want to see the amount of money that was embezzled is getting back to government’s hands and being channeled to proper projects,” he said

“The ongoing ‘clean-up’ exercise to flush out all leaders should match with the good will, we want to see the rule of law is observed and no body’s right is being denied,” he added

Commenting on the suspension of the Dar es Salaam City Council Director Wilson Kabwe over inking fraudulent contracts that have denied the government billions of shillings, Mr Kilewo said the same procedures should be taken to the former City Mayor, Dr Didas Masaburi who approved all deals.

He said, the government should also be fair by taking legal measure to Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) high officials who are involved in different scandals, in this case, Dr Masaburi should be involved as he was in-charge of all contracts under his capacity as city Mayor
